
Hampton Travels To George Mason For Weekend Slate

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 4, 2026) … The Hampton University volleyball team is set to play two matches in the Patriot/Terrapin Challenge this weekend when they take on Maryland Eastern Shore and George Mason.
ABOUT HAMPTON:
- The Pirates enter the weekend after a mid-week loss to Norfolk State in five sets.
- Hampton was led offensively by the trio of Katerina Pappa (17), Racquel Frazier (14) and Nikola Jaroszewicz (11) who all recorded 10 or more kills.
- Hampton picked up its first win of the season on opening weekend against Bethune-Cookman in their first match of the season.
- Ana Luiza Caminha Matos leads the Pirates in assists on the season with 129.
- Janiah Robinson (7), Jaroszewicz (7) and Lillian Campbell (6) lead the Pirates in blocks on the year.
ABOUT UMES:
- The Hawks enter the weekend 1-2 after picking up a win over Mississippi Valley State.
- UMES defeated Hampton a season ago 3-1 in the Hampton Tournament.
- Adrianna Warner Torres and Karieyls Melendez have each recorded 15+ digs on the season.
- Melendez leads the team offensively with 14 kills, while Jayda Hutchins has 40 assists.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON:
- The Patriots defeated Northwestern and Howard to begin the season.
- Kiera Hamilton has been dominant for George Mason, recording 54 kills through three matches, while Nia Thompson adds a second best 39.
- Camryn Weldon has a team best 93 assists, and also bolsters 43 digs on defense.
- Meredith Brown leads the team with 19 blocks.
HAMPTON VS. THE FIELD:
Hampton holds a 21-32 record overall against UMES, having dropped three straight in the series. George Mason holds the all-time record over Hampton as they have won both matches the two sides have played.
THREE-HEADED PIRATE:
The trio of Katerina Pappa (53), Racquel Frazier (52) and Nikole Jaroszewicz (40) have led the Pirates on offense through four games, combining for 145 of the team's 171 kills. They three have recorded 10 or more kills in three of the team's four matches in 2026.
WORLD WIDE PIRATES:
The Pirates have quite the variety of areas and regions on its 2026 roster. Six players are from overseas, while 10 players represent eight states. Overseas Pirates hail from Turkey, Greece, Bolivia, Poland and Brazil, while the states of Maryland, Georgia, New Jersey, Texas, Ohio, New York, California and Virginia are also represented.
