
Hampton Picks Up Win In Game One Of Patriot/Terrapin Challenge

FAIRFAX, Va. (Sept. 5, 2026) … The Hampton University volleyball team earned their second win of the season Saturday, taking down Maryland Eastern Shore 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-22).
The two sides traded points early in the first set, as Hampton held an early 9-8 lead. After a UMES service error, the Pirates rattled off seven straight points, capped by a Racquel Frazier kill to take a 16-8 lead. Hampton then closed out the set with a kill from Nikola Jaroszewicz to win 25-17.
Hampton continued their momentum early in the second set, scoring the first five points courtesy of three service aces, an attack error and a kill from Jaroszewicz. The Pirates continued to extend their lead, recording 16 of the matches first 19 points, including 10 straight points. The Pirates then cruised to the finish line to take the first two sets, winning set two 25-18.
Katerina Pappa started the scoring for Hampton in the third set with back-to-back kills. The two sides then traded points for the first half of the set, as Hampton held an early 12-11 lead. Hampton then ripped off a 4-1 run to take a 16-12 lead. The Hawks fought back, tying the game at 21, but it was Hampton rattling off four of the final five points, capped off by an attack error to give the Pirates its second win of the season.
Ronaldo Pacheco's has now recorded the most wins in a season in his Hampton tenure just five matches into the season. Hampton snaps a three game losing streak to the Eagles with Saturday's win.
Pappa led the way for the Pirates on offense with 12 kills, while Jaroszewicz recorded 11. Ana Luiza Caminha Matos registered 29 assists, as she has 25 or more in every match this season. Janiah Robinson led the Pirates with three block assists, while Lillian Campbell recorded three total.
Hampton returns to action tomorrow when they take on the host, George Mason at 1:00 p.m.
