HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 9, 2025) … The Hampton Pirates women's soccer team continues a four-match homestand on Wednesday afternoon hosting Virginia State at 12:30 p.m. in Norfolk at Powhatan Field.
Hampton (3-3-1) enters the match after a physical 2-2 draw with Delaware State on Sunday. Caitlyn Peace and Makayla Wade scored goals for the Pirates as the teams were even in shots at 15 in the contest that saw 33 fouls and 10 cards handed out.
Virginia State (0-1) started its season at home on Saturday dropping a 3-1 decision to Emory & Henry. Sasha Fields scored the lone tally for the Trojans at 22:49 off an assist by Morgan Parris. The Wasps stung three times within a 12-minute span of the second half to take the win.

ABOUT HAMPTON
- Peace earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors after a three-goal performance in a 1-0-1 week for Hampton. She scored twice to start a 6-0 Hampton win over Lincoln (Pa.) on Friday and followed with the opening tally in the 2-2 draw with Delaware State on Sunday.
- With the three wins, Hampton has tied its most wins in a season in program history as the Pirates won three matches in 2017 and 2024.
- Those three wins, all by shutout, set a single-season record for most shutouts topping the two in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2024.
ABOUT VIRGINIA STATE
- The Trojans held a 9-5 advantage in shots during the first half of their match with Emory & Henry, but were proceeded to be outshot 11-0 in the final 45 minutes. VSU did have a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- Tianna Roberts made six saves in goal for Virginia State and allowed all three second half goals.
- Loryn Sturgis had three shots to lead the Trojans. Fields had two shots in the match, both on goal, and got the lone tally early in the contest.
