JENNINGS MOVING UP CAREER CHARTS
With her three goals this season, Nylah Jennings has moved into second place on the all-time goals scored with 10. She was tied with Michelle Zilberman who scored nine in 2017 before her goal in the loss to College of Charleston. The all-time leader is Sydney Jackson with 12 from 2015-18.
In career points, she is one away from tying Jackson for the career lead as Jennings now has 27 points as a Pirate.
RECORD SETTING BEAT THE BUZZER
Jayda Sutton's blast with five seconds left against South Carolina State on Sept. 30 was the latest in a game that a Pirate has scored in the history of the program. Prior to Sutton's tally, the latest game-winner in Hampton history was in 2017 by Sydney Jackson at 84:24 in a 2-1 win over Mount Olive on Sept. 19, 2017.
JOHN RETURNS AGAINST COUGARS
Goalkeeper Avery John made her return to action in the College of Charleston contest after missing 10 matches with an injury. She played the second half against the Cougars with two saves and one goal allowed in 45 minutes.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN..AND AGAIN
After starting at home against College of Charleston on Oct. 4, the Pirates began a run of six straight matches away from campus as they head to Virginia State, Campbell, Elon and Regent to finish out the month of October. They'll play on campus for the first time this season, due to field renovations at Armstrong Stadium, hosting William & Mary for Senior Day on Nov. 1 at noon.
This actually is the second streak of the season with at least five games in a row on the road as after opening the home slate with Temple on Aug. 15, the Pirates faced Howard, USC Upstate, Delaware State, Longwood and George Mason over a three-week span. Hampton played UNCW at home on Sept. 20 to break that run.
LATEST NATIONALLY
According to research, Sutton's buzzer-beater at South Carolina State appears to be the among the latest a game-winning goal has been scored in an NCAA Division I women's soccer match this season. UConn defeated Boston University 2-1 on Aug. 23 with a goal as time expired and Michigan State scored with four seconds left to tie Notre Dame 2-2 on Sept. 3. Miami (Fla.) and Vermont each won a game this year with a second left.
PIRATE POINT LEADERS
Through 14 matches, Nylah Jennings leads with nine points including three goals and a team-best three assists. Jayda Sutton is next with three goals for six points, followed by Anneli Donath with a goal and an assist for three points.
