HAMPTON, Va. (April 30, 2025) … The Hampton University softball team is back on the road, facing the UNCW Seahawks. The Pirates series at Boseman Field is HU's final three games of the 2025 season.

ABOUT THE SERIES

In recent history, the series has favored the Seahawks. UNCW has won the last 11 matchups in a row. Since both teams have been members of the CAA, the Seahawks are 6-0. The Pirates have not played at Boseman Field since the 2023 campaign.

ABOUT HAMPTON

In its last time out, Hampton hosted the North Carolina A&T Aggies in HU's final home series of the season. The Pirates took game one 3-2 in extra innings. Down to their last three outs in the seventh, an error by the Aggies allowed two runs to come across the plate. In the eighth frame, both sides were held scoreless. Leah Maduro kept the Pirates' hopes alive in the bottom of the ninth on a base knock towards the shortstop. With the North Carolina A&T fielder unable to make a play, the winning run came across the plate. After the series-opening win, Hampton dropped the next two games to the Aggies.

Carmynn Bonner has been Hampton's top offensive player this season. The Dayton, Ohio product's .393 batting average is eighth best in the conference. This season, Bonner has amassed seven triples, which is the sixth most in the country. She only needs one more to break Hampton's single-season record for triples. Kylie Hill has seen a major increase in her batting average. The sophomore batting average is up by .176 to .385, which is the highest surge on the team. Hill leads the Pirates this season in RBIs with 29 while tallying 57 hits.

ABOUT UNCW

UNCW enters the series seventh in the conference standings. The Seahawks are only one game back from the final CAA Tournament spot. In its last time out, UNCW was able to take game one from Elon. The Seahawks fell in the rubber match 2-1. UNCW is coached by Ashley Wade, who is in her third season at the helm. During the 2024 campaign, the Seahawks made the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Wade's side has led the CAA in stolen bases per game this season with 2.87. The Seahawks are ranked eighth in the country for total stolen bases. Cassidy Relay has led the way for UNCW on the bases with 31 stolen bases. Morgan Britt, Maggie Pertee, Madison Biddle, along with Relay all rank inside the conference's top 10 for stolen bases. Makayla Huddleston is the go-to arm for the Seahawks. The sophomore has pitched eight complete games while amassing 94 strikeouts.
