FAIRFAX, Va. (Apr. 21, 2026) … A seventh inning rally from the visiting Hampton Pirates fell short on Tuesday as they dropped a 6-4 decision at George Mason in a non-conference matchup.
The homestanding Patriots scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on consecutive RBI singles from Elyssa DeRosa and Kaleigh Friend. George Mason (24-20) pushed the lead to 3-0 as Leah Pickford started the bottom of the third with a single, stole second and scored on a triple from Tess Altevers Harris.
Hampton (10-30) got on the board with a run in the fourth as
Carmynn Bonner started with a single and went to second on a wild pitch before scoring as
Violet Salazar grounded into a double play.
The Pirates pushed another run across in the top of the sixth as Bonner began the inning with a double and scored on a double by Salazar trimming the deficit to 3-2.
GMU scored three times in its half of the inning highlighted by a two-run single from Peyton Auerbach to push the lead to 6-2.
Hampton had one last run in the top of the seventh as
Santrea Armstead singled and was replaced by pinch-runner
Cheyenne Crenshaw. She went to second on a single by
Riley Bohanon and Bonner smashed a double to center to plate both runs.
Hampton outhit George Mason 12-7 in the game as Bonner was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in, while Bohanon was also 3-for-4 with one run scored.
The Pirates now head to Campbell to close the regular season with a three-game set starting on Friday night at 5 p.m.
