Pirates Set to Face Stony Brook in Final Home Contest

HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 23, 2025) … Hampton University men's basketball team returns to action tomorrow at noon against the Stony Brook Seawolves. The Pirates have had a strong February only falling to Monmouth on the road. Coach Ivan Thomas's side has won four straight heading into the final week of the regular season.

ABOUT THE SERIES 

The Pirates have faced the Seahawks three times. In Hampton's first season in the Coastal Athletic Association, HU squared off against Stony Brook inside the Convocation Center. Monday's game will be the first home meeting for the Pirates in two years. The first-ever meeting between the two sides came during the 2016-17 campaign in a neutral site contest. 

ABOUT HAMPTON

In its last time out, Hampton defeated the UNCW Seahawks 83-70 for the first time in school history on CBS Sports Network. The Pirates received massive production from their starting five with George Beale Jr. and Noah Farrakhan both finished the contest in double figures. Farrakhan on senior day had 15 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Beale Jr. had a game-high 20 points while going 8-for-13 from the field. Wayne Bristol Jr. matched Beale Jr.'s 20 points off the bench. Bristol Jr. was on fire from beyond the arc hitting six threes. As a team, Hampton shot 65 percent from beyond the arc making 15 threes. 

The Pirates have consistently been towards the top of the country in bench points per game. Hampton is averaging 37.1 bench points per contest which is second in the nation and first in the conference. In 23 of the Pirate's 28 games this season the leading scorer has come off the bench. Coach Ivan Thomas's side consistently produced high-quality looks. Hampton is tallying 7.5 steals per game which leads the league.

ABOUT STONY BROOK

The Seawolves enter Monday's game 14th in the conference standings. Stony Brook fell on the road this past Saturday to North Carolina A&T 73-72. The game went down to the wire and was all squared at 72-72 with less than a minute to go. The Aggies went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line in the final second. CJ Luster II led the Seawolves in scoring 23 points. Andre Snoddy produced a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Stony Brook has been one of the better free-throw-shooting teams in the conference. The Seawolves on average are shooting 76.1 percent from the charity stripe. Snoddy has been a double-double machine for SBU. The Melville, N.Y. native, ranks third in the conference with seven double-doubles.
