HAMPTON, Va. (Apr. 21, 2026 ) … Third- year head coach Ivan Thomas has announced the addition of Bryant Stith to his coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Stith, a native of Freeman, Va. comes to Hampton after serving as an assistant coach at UNC Greensboro the previous four seasons. In his first three seasons in Greensboro, he helped lead the Spartans to three consecutive 20-win seasons. During the 2023-24 season, Stith helped coach the Spartans to their first win against a nationally ranked team in program history against No. 14 Arkansas. He coached Kobe Langley to back-to-back South Conference Defensive Player of the Year awards during the 2022-24 seasons.
Before his four-year stint at UNC Greensboro, Stith spent nine seasons at Old Dominion as an assistant coach. During his time with the Monarchs, he helped coach the team to a Conference USA regular season and Tournament Championship. In his second season with ODU, he helped the Monarchs to a 27-8 record, while leading the team to an NIT Semifinals berth following wins over Charleston Southern, Illinois State and Murray State. In 2016, his son, Brandon, was named to the Conference USA All-Defensive Team.
Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Stith led Brunswick (Va.) High to state championships in three consecutive years from 2011-13, while appearing in seven straight. He recorded a 185-23 record in his seven seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs.
Stith played collegiately at Virginia under Jeff Jones where he was the 1989 ACC Rookie of the Year. He finished his career in 1992 as the Wahoo's all-time leading scorer with 2,516 points. He was a three-time All-ACC honoree and was named the MVP of the 1992 NIT.
Following his playing career, he was selected 13th overall in the 1992 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets. He spent eight seasons with the Nuggets before playing with the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers his final two seasons. He averaged 10.1 points per game in his career, while dishing out 2.0 assists per game.
Stith is married to the former Barbara Dilworth. They have four children, sons Brandan and B.J. who both attended and played basketball at ODU, while daughters Bria and Brooke both attended East Carolina University where they were track and field athletes.
