WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (April 6, 2024) – Hampton's lacrosse team fell against the Monmouth Hawks 15-4 on Saturday afternoon in West Long Branch, N.J. inside of Kessler Stadium.
How it Happened
Monmouth scored two quick goals in a 35-second period to lead 2-0 at the 12:50 mark. The Pirates responded quickly with a counterattack off a Monmouth turnover.
Darius Stanley gathered the ball at midfield and passed it along to
Miles Fawcett. Fawcett found
Sebastian West in front of the net for his third goal of the season to make it 2-1. The Hawks would score the next five goals to end the period up by six.
Jonathan Angel opened up the scoring in the second period. Angel scooped up the ball in Monmouth's offensive side of the field and ran straight to the net to score his second of the season. In the third period, the Pirates held the Hawks scoreless and added two goals of their own.
Mamadou Meite tallied his eight and Fawcett his seventh this spring. Hampton only allowed three shots on goal in the third, its fewest in a period this season. The Hawks ended the game with five more goals.
Throughout the contest, Fawcett posted four shots on goal and goalie
David Sadasivam led the team with seven saves. The Pirates had six players tally two or more ground balls.
