HAMPTON, Va. (March 21, 2024) … Hampton softball is back in action against the Cougars of Charleston. The Lady Pirates are coming off their eighth win of the season defeating Norfolk State 13-4. Charleston is coming off its second Coastal Athletic Association series of the 2024 campaign. The Cougars lost all three games in the series to Stony Brook. This weekend's three-game series begins on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
A Look at the Lady Pirates
Hampton defeated Norfolk State in its last time out. The Lady Pirates bats caught fire in the top of the fifth recording eight hits. Sixth-year senior
Emily Workman picked up her second win of the season. The Kingston, Tenn. native also produced a double which was her first ever collegiate hit.
Emily Kepple had a solid game going perfect from the plate while driving in two runs.
Carmynn Bonner has continued her impressive run of form. Bonner is currently on a six-game hitting streak that started against Quinnipiac. During this stretch, she has recorded a team-high 11 RBIs. In the past three contests, she has had two or more hits. While Hampton's offense has struggled at times, the Lady Pirates are still one of the better-hitting teams in the CAA. Currently, Coach

A Look at the Cougars
Charleston enters this weekend's slate of games with an overall record of 7-17 and is 1-5 in the league. The Cougars are currently on a five-game losing streak. In its most recent contest, Charleston fell to Stony Brook 10-8. After two innings the Cougars jumped out to a two-run advantage. While both sides recorded 16 hits, the Seawolves were able to pull away late. Charleston is coached by Tracy Lynch who enters her third season with the program.
Throughout the 2024 season, the Cougars have been a solid fielding team. With a .968 Charleston has the second-best fielding percentage in the conference. Coach Lynch's squad also has committed the fourth-fewest errors in the CAA (23). Similarly to the Lady Pirates, Charleston is a solid-hitting team recording the third most doubles per game in the league (1.25).
