GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands (Nov. 23, 2024) … Hampton University men's basketball team is set to begin the Cayman Islands Classic against Mountain West Conference foe Boise State. In the program's history, the Pirates have never faced the Broncos. Sunday's opening contents of the Cayman Islands Classic is set to be streamed on FloSports, and tip-off is slated for 11:00 a.m.

ABOUT HAMPTON

In its last time out, the Pirates defeated UMBC 78-68 on the road at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. George Beale Jr. led Hampton in scoring with 23 points while coming off the bench. Beale Jr. went 9-of-16 from the field while going 3-of-5 from three. As a team, Coach Ivan Thoams's squad shot a season-high 50 percent from the field. Kyrese Mullen produced his second double-double of the 2024-25 campaign. 

The Pirates continue to be one of the top offensive-rebounding teams in the country. On average, Hampton is tallying 17.4 offensive boards per game, which is the fifth most in the nation. Along with rebounding at a high rate, HU is one of 21 teams at the Division I level to shoot 80 percent or better from the free-throw line. Through five games, the Pirates are 18th in the nation for free throw percentage (80.2 percent).

ABOUT BOISE STATE

The Broncos are coached by Leon Rice, who is in his 15th season at the helm. Boise State has made the past three NCAA Tournaments while recording an AP Poll Top-25 finish. Coach Rice's squad was selected as the preseason favorites to win the Mountain West Conference. In their last time out, the Broncos defeated Clemson 84-71 at home. Preseason Mountain West Conference Player of the Year Tyson Degenhart led Boise State in scoring with 20 points while tallying 11 rebounds. 

So far this season, the Broncos have defended the three at a high level. On average, opponents are shooting 25.7 percent from the beyond-the-arc. Coach Rice's team has also distributed the ball at a high level. Boise State with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.74, ranks 28th in the country and second in the MWC.

The Pirates continue to the Cayman Islands Classic on Monday, Nov. 25. Hampton will either face South Dakota State or Duquense.
