Lady Pirates End Two-Game Road Trip Against Elon

HAMPTON, VA. (Sept. 27, 2023) … Hampton women's soccer ends their two-game road trip Thursday at 7:00 PM taking on Elon. Thursday's match will mark the third-ever meeting between the two programs. Fans can follow the match on FloFC or by using the live stats link.

A Look at Your Lady Pirates

The Lady Pirates in their last time out fell to the Huskies of Northeastern. Freshman Mattie Edozzie almost scored her first goal of the season While the HU did not get the result they were looking for, history would be made. Alexis Deveaux recorded her 100th save of the season in the 76th minute of the match. She now joins Maya Andrews as one of the only Lady Pirates to have 100 or more saves in a season.

So far this season for Hampton only three players have started every match for the Lady Pirates. Seniors Taylor Oliver and Lailah Daniel combined have almost accumulated 2,000 minutes this season. Out of the three Makayla Wade is the only non-upperclassmen that has started every contest. The Compton, Calif. Native has found the back of the net once this season. Wade also currently sits fourth on the team for shots this season.

Scouting Elon

The Phoenix enter Thursday night's match with a (1-6-3) overall record and an (0-4-1) record in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). Elon is coached by Neil Payne who enters his sixth season with the program. Payne has led the Phoenix to two NCAA tournament appearances along with the program's first CAA Championship. Ever since his first season with the team, Elon has averaged ten wins a season.

While the Phoenix have scored the second-fewest goals in the conference, they have only allowed 15 goals.  McKenna Dalfonso has been the keeper of choice for Elon this season. In nine matches, Dalfonso has faced a total of 116 shots while allowing 14 goals with a 72 percent save percentage. Offensively the Phoenix are led by freshman Gabby Hoschek. Hosckek leads Elon in goals scored with three and has produced an assist. The best passer on the young Elon squad is Grace Gelhaus. Gelhaus, another key freshman contributor, has a team-high three assists.
