Chanel Azong, a member of the women's soccer team at Hampton University, participated in the fifth annual HBCU Career Combine sponsored by Under Armour. The combine was held at Under Armour's headquarters in Baltimore from June 1-4.
A selective career program, the Career Combine provides an opportunity for student-athletes to experience global business from the inside with Under Armour and its global partners. Participants spent time learning the business from the inside, sharpening critical thinking skills and developing leadership capabilities in preparation for a professional career.
Participants were split into teams each with assignments. Azong's team finished second in the competition earning her an Under Armour scholarship for the upcoming year.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, be a student in good standing, have participated in campus or community or have an employment history and have a career interest in fashion/design, retail, sports or business.
A native of Navan, Ireland, Azong attended Technological University of Dublin and played for Bohemian FC before arriving to Hampton. In 2023 she helped guide her team to a semifinal appearance in the National Cup.
She is a member of the Hampton Dean's List and earned Coastal Athletic Association Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition with High Honors. A midfielder, she helped lead the Pirates to their most wins in program history, dating back to 2015.
