Hampton Women’s Soccer Begin Two-Game Road Trip

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 20, 2023) … Hampton women's soccer has reached the halfway point of the 2023 campaign and is now in the thick of CAA play. The Lady Pirates are set to begin a two-game road trip this Sunday. HU opens the road trip against the Huskies of Northeastern. Fans can follow the match Flo FC or by using the live stats.

A Look at Your Lady Pirates

Hampton in their last time out suffered another loss to Hawks of the Monmouth. The Lady Pirates offense for the second match in a row, struggled only producing a season low two shots. However, in back-to-back matches, HU committed fewer fouls than their opponent.  While Mounmouth's offense soared in the first half, the Lady Pirates' defense held the Hawks to only one goal.

Freshman Sanaa Perry leads Hampton offensively this season. The Bowie, Md. native has scored twice this season in nine matches. While Maya Martir and Mattie Edozie have produced the most shots on the team, they have not found the back of the net this season. Captain Lailah Daniel has been a strong presence in the midfield for HU. Daniel has started all ten matches this season playing a team-high 889 minutes. For six consecutive weeks, Alexis Deveaux sits atop Division I for saves with 91. With nine more saves this season Deveaux will become the second player in the history of the program to record 100 or more saves in a season.

Scouting the Huskies

Northeastern is coached by Ashley Phillips who enters her eighth season with the program. Coach Phillips has had four seasons with ten or more wins. She became the first coach in the CAA to win the regular season and postseason title in their first year.  During her tenure with the Huskies, Phillips has produced seven NCAA All-East Region selections.

Through the halfway point of the season NU has scored the second most goals in the conference averaging just shy of two a game. The Huskies' top goal scorer this season is Vivian Akyirem. Last season Akyirem scored 13 goals helping her be named to the All-CAA First Team and CAA Rookie Team. Overall, Jessie Hunt is HU's top offensive threat contributing a league-high seven assists along with scoring two goals.
