HAMPTON, Va. – A 27-14 second quarter for visiting Norfolk State proved to be the difference as the Spartans defeated Hampton Lady Pirates 77-56 on Saturday.
After an eight-all first quarter, the Lady Pirates held a 15-13 advantage with 7:54 left in the half on a jumper by
MaKayla Timmons. Norfolk State went on a 20-5 run to lead 33-20 after a jumper by Blaire Thomas with 91 seconds left in the half.
Hampton got the deficit under double digits early in the fourth on a layup by
Dlayla Chakolis to trail 55-46 with 8:30 remaining. The Spartans rode a 13-4 run to push the lead back to 68-50 with 5:01 left on an Armani Franklin layup.
Timmons topped Hampton with 16 points, while
Laren VanArsdale had 13 and six assists and
Nylah Young had a season high 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
The LadyPirates are now off until December 14 when they host Liberty at 7 pm.
