HAMPTON, Va. –
Laren VanArsdale paced four in double figures for Hampton with 15 points and seven assists as the Lady Pirates fell 83-59 to Liberty on Saturday night.
Liberty used a 17-2 run over the last six minutes of the first quarter to take a 23-11 lead on a Keyen Green layup with 38 seconds left. Hampton cut the lead to six on a couple occasions in the second quarter, the last being on a pair of
Carmen Jackson free throws with 11 seconds left to trail 34-28.
In the third quarter, a VanArsdale layup brought them to 36-30 at the 8:27 mark, but a 10-3 spurt by the Flames pushed the lead back to 46-33 on a pair of Emily Lytle free throws with 4:47 remaining in the third.
MaKayla Timmons had 14 points, while
Nylah Young added 11 and
Ashley Bates with 10 for Hampton. Green topped Liberty with 17 points and nine rebounds to lead three in double figures.
Hampton is now back in action on Thursday at 7:30 pm in the opening day of the Anne Donovan Classic when they face Mount St. Mary's at Old Dominion University.
