IN BRIEF: A late flurry by Hampton got the Lady Pirates close but not enough as Winthrop took a 3-1 decision on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katie Colwick put the hosts up 1-0 in the 11th minute as she stuck in a rebound into the near corner.
- Winthrop pushed the lead to 2-0 at 83:08 as Laurin Uptegrove took a feed from Lauryn Jennings and put one in from 25 yards out.
- Hampton cut the lead in half at the 84:44 mark as an Isobel Finnegan connected with Sydney Allen who touched it in for a 2-1 margin.
- Keeley Leising gave the hosts its final tally at 85:21 with an unassisted goal bending one into the far corner of the net.
