HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University women's soccer team opens its home schedule on Monday afternoon with a 4pm kick against VMI at the HU Soccer Complex.
Both teams fell in their respective season openers on Friday as Hampton lost 5-3 at The Citadel, while VMI dropped a 1-0 decision at home to UNC Asheville. VMI leads the all-time series 2-0 winning 7-0 last year in Lexington.
Hampton scored all three of its goals in the second half on Friday by three different freshmen.
Leslie Jaiyesmi scored in the 49
th minute,
Ayana Garvin tallied one in the 67
th minute, while
Michelle Zilberman blasted a penalty kick in the 85
th minute.
VMI gave up a goal in the 84
th minute in its season-opening loss on Friday. UNC Asheville outshot them 23-11 but standout goalie stops by both squads kept the game scoreless until the last six minutes.
Hampton will return to the home pitch on August 27 when they face Mt. St. Mary's at 2 pm.
