HAMPTON, Va. –
Trey Carver paced three in double figures with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds as Hampton defeated Apprentice School 90-43 in the first Hype Night Unite game – Pirates for Puerto Rico fund raiser at the Hu Convocation Center Monday night.
After a 3-pointer from William Wilcox put Apprentice School 3-0 in the first 16 seconds, Hampton went on a 20-1 run capped by a Carver 3-point play to lead 20-4 with 12:29 left in the first half. From there the lead was never less than 13 points.
All proceeds from Monday's game will be donated to help relief efforts in Puerto Rico. Hampton visited the island a month before Hurricane Maria essentially wiped out most of the island.
Jermaine Marrow also had 14 points, while
Austin Colbert added 10 to lead Hampton. Drew Walton had a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds for Apprentice School to go with the 11 points from Wilcox.
Hampton will start its 2017-18 season on Friday night at 8pm when they face the Rider Broncos in New Jersey.
