SOFTBALL GEARING UP FOR DOUBLEHEADER AT GEORGE MASON

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Hampton University softball team will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon, squaring off against George Mason in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the George Mason Softball Complex.

The Lady Pirates (18-19) have won seven of their last eight games after taking two of three from Delaware State back on March 29-30.

George Mason (9-26) has lost five straight games.

Freshman Taylor McCoy (Riverview, Fla.) leads the team with a .407 batting average, and she leads Hampton with 10 doubles so far this season. Junior Margaret Wilkins (Tustin, Calif.) is hitting .362, leading the Lady Pirates with 46 hits, 30 runs, and five home runs.

McCoy, who has hit safely in 13 of her last 14 games, has a team-high 27 RBIs.

Sophomore Jailynn Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va.) is 13-8 this season, matching last season's win total, with a 3.11 ERA. Her 136 strikeouts over 139.2 innings pitched lead the MEAC, and Jackson has at least five strikeouts in 16 of her last 21 appearances.

The Lady Pirates are 9-15 all-time against George Mason, but Hampton swept last season's doubleheader 10-5 and 3-2 on March 14 at the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium. Prior to last season, George Mason had won three of the last four meetings.
