SOFTBALL HEADING TO MARYLAND FOR TWO DOUBLEHEADERS

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Hampton University softball team will be in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area on Tuesday and Wednesday for a pair of doubleheaders, taking on Maryland on Tuesday and Towson on Wednesday.

The Lady Pirates (11-12) will take on Maryland at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, before facing Towson on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Hampton has won six of its last eight games after going 3-1 this past weekend in the Lady Pirates Classic – recording wins over Central Connecticut State, Canisius, and Siena before falling 2-1 to Delaware on Sunday.

Sophomore Jailynn Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va.) went 2-1 on the mound over the weekend, recording 21 strikeouts in 21.0 innings pitched – including a career-high 10 on Sunday against Delaware. She has recorded at least five strikeouts in eight of her last nine appearances.

For the season, Jackson is 8-5 with a 2.34 ERA and nine complete games.

Junior Margaret Wilkins (Tustin, Calif.), the reigning MEAC Player of the Week, leads the team with a .413 batting average, recording a team-high 31 hits in 75 at-bats. She is tied for the team lead with senior Adrianna Scott (Laurel, Md.) in home runs with three, and she is second on the team with 14 RBIs.

Scott leads the team with 15 RBIs.

Wilkins also leads the Lady Pirates with five stolen bases in six attempts, and she is on an eight-game hitting streak. She was 5-for-13 (.385) at the plate with two RBIs in the Lady Pirates Classic.

The Lady Pirates are 0-1 all-time against Maryland, falling 9-1 to the Terrapins on March 20, 2011 in the Maryland Round Robin Tournament.

Hampton has never faced Towson.
