CONYERS, Ga. – The Hampton University softball team won two games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Earl O'Neal Complex, as the Lady Pirates competed in the Tiny L. Laster FastPitch Tournament.
The Lady Pirates (2-3), under first-year head coach Trena Peel, beat Grambling State 10-3 in six innings on Saturday, before closing out action on Sunday with an 8-1 win over Savannah State.
Junior
Sharde' Estep (Aquasco, Md.) led the Lady Pirates against Grambling State, going 3-for-4 from the plate, driving in a run and scoring another. Sophomore

Travonna Byrd (Newport News, Va.) and sophomore
Carla Trimble (Riverside, Calif.) each drove in two runs for Hampton.
The Lady Pirates opened with a six-run first inning over Grambling State, getting things started with a two-run home run by Trimble. Scott then singled home a pair of runs later in the inning. Freshman
Heather Ryder (Ontario, Canada) then singled Scott home, before scoring herself on a passed ball.
Byrd homered in the fourth inning, and Estep scored on a passed ball in the fifth.
Ryder picked up her first win of the season, tossing six innings and striking out six; only one of the three runs she gave up was earned.
Junior
Brooke Boykin (Riverside, Calif.) went 3-for-4 at the plate in Hampton's 8-1 win over Savannah State, driving in a run. Ryder also drove in a run, as did junior

Nina Ferguson (Plymouth, Minn.).
The Lady Pirates took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning after taking advantage of a throwing error by Savannah State. Hampton then pushed across six runs in the seventh inning, beginning with an RBI double from Ferguson, before Noler drove in a run with a single.
Ryder added an RBI double, before Boykin singled in another run.
Ryder picked up her second win on the mound, going three relief innings without giving up a run. She struck out six Savannah State batters.
The Lady Pirates opened play on Friday with a 14-0 loss to Alcorn State in five innings. Alcorn State gave up just three hits. Ryder went 1-for-2 at the plate, as did senior

Cynammon Bell (Lithonia, Ga.).
Alcorn State scored five runs in the second inning, then added six more in the fifth inning.
After beating Grambling State, the Lady Pirates fell 4-0 to Mississippi Valley State on Saturday. The lady Pirates were held to just four hits – one each from Trimble, Estep, Ferguson and Magett. MVSU led 2-0 after two innings, before adding a pair of runs in the fourth.
Hampton opened Sunday with a 12-4 five-inning loss to Tennessee State. Tennessee State was up 4-0 before the Lady Pirates scored a pair of runs in the third inning, cutting the lead to 4-2 after RBI singles from Brown and Trimble.
Senior
Tiffany Brents (Chino Hills, Calif.) added an RBI fielder's choice, before Brown recorded another RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4.
Tennessee State scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to break the game open, before adding two more runs in the fifth.
Brown and Trimble each went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Pirates.
