HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University men's basketball team, fresh off a road win over Winston-Salem State on Monday, will look for its second straight win on Saturday, as the Pirates play host to the Eagles of Coppin State at the Convocation Center. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m.

Hampton (12-13, 6-5 MEAC) leads the all-time series against Coppin State 12-11, a series that didn't start until the 1996-97 season – the year after the Pirates joined the MEAC. Hampton has won three of the last six meetings between the two teams, but the defending MEAC tournament champion Eagles have taken the last three games – including a 61-60 last-second win in Baltimore earlier this season thanks to a jumper from Vince Goldsberry with 2.8 seconds left.

From 2000-05, the Pirates won nine straight games against Coppin State.

Vincent Simpson (Philadelphia, Pa.) leads the Pirates in scoring at 12.5 per game, while averaging 16.7 a contest in MEAC play. Theo Smalling (Tampa, Fla.) leads the team in rebounding at 5.5 boards a game, while Donte Harrison (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is averaging 5.2 rebounds a contest.

Senior guard Tywain McKee is leading the Eagles (10-16, 7-5 MEAC) in scoring this year, pouring in 18.6 points a contest while also pulling down a team-high 5.4 rebounds a game. In conference play, those totals are 17.8 and 5.9. Freshman guard Jordan Lee is second on the team in scoring with 9.3 points a game, though his average has jumped to 13 points a contest in MEAC play. Freshman guard Michael Harper, he of 8.5 points a game this season, is averaging 11.5 a game in conference play.

Coppin State is averaging 62.6 points a game on offense, while the Eagles' defense is surrendering 68.2 a contest. The Eagles are being outrebounded on the season 975-816, an average of 37.5-31.4 a contest.
