HAMPTON, Va. (September 12, 2026) … In a game delayed one hour and 12 minutes due to a thunder and lightning storm, Bryant University (2-1,1-0) scored three times in the first half and added touchdowns in the third and fourth quarter to post a 31-3 win over Hampton University (1-2, 0-1) before 2,985 rain-soaked fans at Darling Stadium.

The storm delayed the 6 p.m. kickoff until 7:14 and it rained off-and-on throughout the contest making the artificial turf at Darling Stadium slippery and running pass routes an adventure.

Bryant amassed 352 yards in the game while the Pirates totaled 330. Tre'Von Taylor came off the bench to complete 12-of-24 passes for 134 yards with 36 yards rushing for Hampton while Cam Sturdifen led all tacklers with 14 stops in the game.

"We have to do a better job of executing and cut down on the mental errors," Coach Van Malone said after the game. "I'm proud of the fact that we fought hard for 60 minutes and we are continuing to build a culture."

Hampton struck first when Hampton native Brett Starling booted a 35-yard field goal with 3:49 to go in the opening quarter to put the Pirates up 3-0. The Pirates moved the ball 43 yards on 12 plays, all on the ground, scoring the game's first points.

But the lead didn't last long. Bryant responded with a 10-play, 73-yard drive culminating in a touchdown when Shawn Wilson Jr. hauled in a 13-yard pass across the middle from quarterback Brennan Myer. The Bulldogs led 7-3 after the first quarter.

Myers tossed his second TD pass of the night on a 60-yard toss to Shamar Fowles who dashed untouched along the sidelines to pad the Bryant lead to 14-3 with 5:46 left in the half.

Taylor replaced Jalen Woods at quarterback for the Pirates but a short drive bogged down late in the second quarter giving the Bulldogs the ball at the Bryant 29-yard line. They drove to the 27 where Nicholas Stoyanovich was true on a 44-yard field goal on the last play of the first half to put the Bulldogs up 17-3.

Bryant had a statistical edge in the opening half outgaining the Pirates 225 yards to 154. Bryant scored on three of its last four possessions of the first half. Hampton had an edge in time of possession 18:08 to 11:12.

Hampton's offense was unable to mount a drive on its first possession of the second half. Bryant returned a short punt at the Hampton 36-yard line. The Bulldogs moved downfield and Myer dashed the final six yards for a TD to give Bryant a 24-3 advantage with 9:40 to go in the third quarter.

Hampton mounted a drive to the Bulldogs 26-yard line but the drive stalled and the Pirates turned the ball over on downs. Bryant moved the ball but the drive appeared to bog down on a fourth-and-17 situation. But a Myers pass to Fowles picked up 19 yards to the Hampton 18. Kendrick Agenor sliced through the line for a two-yard TD to put the Bulldogs up 31-3 with 11:50 remaining.

The Pirates are back in action on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. when they take on longtime rival Norfolk State in the Battle of the Bay at Dick Price Stadium in Norfolk.
