
Pirates Drop Two In East Carolina Tournament

GREENVILLE, N.C. (Aug. 28, 2026) … The Hampton University volleyball team dropped two non-conference matches in the East Carolina Tournament Saturday.
The Pirates and Highlanders exchanged early runs in the first set with Radford grabbing a 5-2 lead before Hampton knotted it at five courtesy of three straight kills by Lillian Campbell. Hampton took a two point lead at 10-8 after a Radford error, but the Highlanders quickly erased the Pirate lead. After 15 points the two sides were tied when Campbell buried home another kill. Radford closed the set out on a 3-0 run and eventually took the first set 25-19.
Hampton battled back in set two, holding an early 4-1 lead when Katerina Pappa deposited a kill. After a 5-0 Highlander run, the Pirates stormed back to take a 12-10 lead on multiple Radford errors. The two sides exchanged points for the remainder of the set, but it was Hampton closing it out on a 5-1 run to earn a 25-22 win, and knot the score at 1-1.
Nikola Jaroszewicz registered a kill in set three to give Hampton an early 5-2 lead. The two sides then traded points with the score being tied 10-10 early. Hampton then rattled off a 3-0 run when Frazier buried a kill followed by two Radford errors. The Pirates then once more rattled off a late run, this time outscoring Radford 5-4 to win set three when Pappa recorded the winning kill.
The Highlanders responded in set four when they held a 10-7 lead early. They continued to extend that lead holding a 17-10 lead late. Hampton battled back, but ultimately dropped set four 25-17, evening the score at 2-2.
Hampton exploded in the fifth set rattling off a 7-1 lead capped by a Pappa kill. Radford battled back, bringing the score to one at 11-10 late. After a Frazier kill the Pirates held a 13-10 lead, but it was the Highlanders rattling off six of the next seven points to take the set 16-14, and the match 3-2.
In the second match, the Pirates fell behind to the Pirates 9-4 in the first set. Hampton fought back to tie the score at 14-14 when Pappa registered a kill. East Carolina then ripped off an 11-5 run to close out the first set to take a 1-0 lead 25-19.
East Carolina carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead, before an attack error put the Pirates on the board. East Carolina continued to build on their early lead, holding off a late Hampton push to win set two 25-20.
Hampton responded in the third set, holding an early 6-4 lead courtesy of kills by Campbell, Pappa, Frazier and Jaroszewicz. East Carolina quickly responded, taking an 11-8 lead midway through the set. After a service error, Pappa sparked a Hampton run, as the Pirates ripped off a 6-1 run to take a 13-12 lead. The two sides then traded points for the remainder of the set, but ultimately it was East Carolina scored three of the last four points to take the match 3-0, winning set three 27-25.
Frazier led the Pirates in kill in the team's two matches, combining for 27, while Pappa added 22. Ana Luiza Caminha Matos registered 58 assists over the course of the two matches.
