HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 22, 2026) … A 22-5 second quarter proved too big of a hole to dig out of on Sunday as the Hampton University women's basketball team dropped a 64-57 decision to Monmouth.
The teams traded buckets to start before an Alexis Andrews three-ball put the Hawks up 9-6 at the 6:03 mark. Hampton answered with a 7-0 burst capped by an
Olivia Smith triple with 4:23 remaining for a 13-9 lead for the Pirates.
Aaryn Battle hit a jumper with 98 seconds left to put Hampton up 15-11 but a jumper from Andrews cut the lead in half at the end of the first quarter.
In the second, Monmouth forced seven of Hampton's 13 turnovers on the night and held the Pirates to a 2-for-13 performance from the floor as they ripped off their 22-5 run. The Hawks opened on a 10-0 run that was slowed by a free throw from
Kiya Dorroh.
Janaye Walker had a layup and Battle hit a floating jumper with two minutes left for the lone Hampton points.
The lead grew to 21 points in the third on a Madelina Amaro putback with 7:15 on the clock as Monmouth held a 45-24 lead. Hampton started to whittle the lead down on the strength of an 18-5 run as
Akilah Shelton's putback brought the Pirates to 50-42 with 2:50 left.
Monmouth's Divine Dibula hit a pair of buckets to stop the Hampton run as the Hawks held a 54-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The guests held a 60-47 lead with 3:25 left in the quarter following a GiGi Gamble turnaround jumper. Hampton made its last ditch run with a 10-1 as
Le'Asia Foreman's reverse layup with 30 seconds left pulled the Pirates to 61-57. Monmouth finished the game with two Dibula free throws and one from Alexis Davis for the win.
Hampton was paced by Dabo with 19 points, while Foreman had 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Walker recorded a season high eight rebounds to lead the Pirates on the boards. Gamble topped all scorers with 21 points for Monmouth while Dibula added 20.
Next up for Hampton will be a trip to Stony Brook on February 27 and then to Boston to face Northeastern on March 1.
