COVINGTON, Ga. (Feb. 14, 2026) … The Hampton University softball team faced a pair of SWAC opponents in day two of the HBCU Leonard Moody Invitational as they fell 6-2 to Florida A&M and 14-10 to Texas Southern.
Game 1 – Florida A&M 6, Hampton 2
Saturday's opener was a defensive struggle for three innings before the Rattlers scratched one across in the bottom of the fourth.
Hampton found the scoreboard twice in the top of the fifth inning as
Kylee Quinn singled to start the inning and went to second on a groundout. Aitrihna Aiken singled her to third and took second on the throw before both score as
Riley Bohanon reached on an error.
Florida A&M broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a three-run home run from Amaya Pitt.
Five different Pirates had a hit each in the contest.
Game 2 – Texas Southern 14, Hampton 10
The nightcap saw a slugfest as the teams combined for 24 runs on 23 hits as Texas Southern held off a late Hampton rally.
Sydney Evans got Hampton on the board in the top of the second with a two-run home run. That lead grew to 4-0 as Camrynn Bonner drove in two with a double in the top of the third.
After giving up three in the bottom of the third, Hampton pushed two across in the fourth on a
Leah Maduro triple to score Evans and Aiken.
Texas Southern put up six in the bottom of the fourth before Hampton found another long ball from Bonner making the score 9-7.
Hampton entered the seventh chasing seven runs as they were down 14-7 following a five-spot from Texas Southern in the bottom of the fifth. Evans drove in one with a walk and
Cassidy Lee drove in one on a sac fly with the third scoring on an error.
Maduro and Bonner had three hits each, while Aiken and Evans had two knocks apiece.
Hampton closes out the tournament facing North Carolina Central at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.
