Malik Wood With Four Goals Leads Hampton In Loss To Detroit Mercy

HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 14, 2026) … Malik Wood scored four goals for Hampton on Saturday in its 2026 home opener, but the Pirates fell 20-8 to visiting Detroit Mercy at Armstrong Stadium.

After giving up the first two goals of the match, Hampton came roaring back as Wood got Hampton on the board with an unassisted tally at 11:08 of the first period. Darius Stanley connected with Wood for his second marker of the period as Hampton tied it 2-2 with 9:29 left.

Anthony Bardonille, Jr. caught a pass from James Greene to push the hosts up 3-2 with 6:13 remaining, but the Titans answered with Dylan Belliveau's marker with four minutes left to even the score. Greene gave the Pirates the lead with 57 seconds left on a blistering shot as Hampton took a 4-3 lead into the second period.

Wood scored Hampton's first goal of the second with a helper from goalie Miles Lancaster. He flung the ball to the back of the attack end and Wood circled the goal for his third marker to even the contest at 5-5 with 11:06 left in the half.

Following four goals from Detroit Mercy (1-2), Darius Stanley found the back of the net with 2:20 remaining for a 9-6 margin.

In the second half, the Pirates got scores from Wood off a Jadon Myers feed at 11:01 of the fourth and then eight seconds later as Nikki Rattan found the back of the net.

The four goals from Wood are the sixth most in a game in school history. That mark was last set by AJ Knox against Iona last season.

Hampton is back in action on February 21 hosting VMI at 5 p.m.
