The Tigers took the opening kickoff and marched 45 yards in 12 plays. But the drive stalled inside the red zone. Max Young booted the first field goal of his career, a 33-yarder, to put Towson ahead 3-0.
On their next possession, the Tigers converted a fourth-and-seven at the Hampton 35 which set up Towson's next score. Tristen Kenan scored his first touchdown as a Tiger with a one-yard run up the middle to make the score 10-0 after one quarter.
The Pirates rotated quarterbacks freshman Xavier Brookins and Tre'Von Taylor throughout the game.
Towson's Kenan dashed 50 yards on three plays and four-yard pass from Jacob Davis to Jacob Zollar capped a 78 -yard-nine play scoring drive making the score 17-0. The Tigers found the end zone again, this time on a 43-yard pass from Davis to Mason Cunningham, the first touchdown reception in his Towson career. The extra-point attempt failed.
Hampton scored on a perfectly executed trick play. Wide receiver Sejhe Jackson took the hand-off and ran around end and then completed a pass to a wide-open Isaiah Smith covering 72 yards for Hampton's first score. The extra point attempt was blocked marking Hampton's first failed extra point attempt this season. Towson then drove 55 yards in five plays highlighted by a 16-yard TD run by Davis to make it 30-6 at the half.
Brookins opened the second half with a 41-yard pass to Damon Short to move the ball into Towson territory. Brookins then connected with Short on a 25-yard TD pass late in the third quarter. Brett Startling added the extra-point making the score 30-13. With 6:28 to go in the third quarter, Towson scored for the sixth time in seven possessions. Kemarrion Battles scored from two yards out upping the Towson lead to 37-13.
The Tigers went ahead 44-13 when Battles ran around end and sprinted 91 yards for a TD 13 seconds into the final quarter, the longest run from scrimmage in Towson history. Neither team was able to find the end zone the rest of the game. But the contest ended with Towson on the one-yard line. Â
The Pirates travel to North Carolina to play Elon in a CAA contest on Nov. 7 at 2:00 p.m.
