BUIES CREEK, N.C. (October 18, 2026) … Sophomore Gositang Motshegwe scored two goals, including a penalty kick at 87:58, but Hampton couldn't find the final equalizer as they dropped a 4-3 shootout to Campbell in CAA play on Sunday afternoon.

The three goals are the most that Hampton has scored in a league match in program history and the most in CAA play. The previous mark was two in a 6-2 loss to High Point on October 5, 2019.

Hampton (3-12-1, 0-7-0) found an early equalizer as Motshegwe was on the receiving end of an Evan-Nichole Whitaker feed at 13:37 to even the match at 1-1.

The Pirates found an advantage at 27:51 when Nylah Jennings caught Evelyn Payne with a feed and the graduate student found the back of the net to give Hampton a 2-1 lead.

Abby Connolly leveled the match at 2-2 with a goal at 43:41 which got the Camels going into halftime. In the second half, Campbell (5-7-4, 2-3-2) got a marker from Ella Wineka at 60:50 and another from Ava Kanaar at 87:16 to push their advantage to 4-2.

Hampton forced the action and Motshegwe converted a penalty kick goal just 36 seconds later to make the margin 4-3. That was the lone shot for the Pirates in the final 45 minutes.

For the game, Campbell held a 30-7 advantage in shots and 10-5 in shots on goal.

Hampton heads to Elon on October 25 for its final road CAA contest of the season in a 1 p.m. first kick.
