ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Sept. 13, 2025) … The Hampton University volleyball team fell in a pair of tight matches on Saturday at the Navy Tournament dropping a four-set match to Gardner-Webb (19-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21) and Navy (25-15, 25-17, 25-18).
Match 1 – Vs. Gardner-Webb
The Pirates started off strong jumping out to a 10-5 lead on a
Racquel Frazier kill and Hampton pushed the lead to 18-9 after an attack error. Gardner-Webb cut the deficit to six on three occasions, the last being on a Caroline Franklin kill for a 24-18 score. Emma Kerwin had a kill to make it 24-19, but Hampton had a
Katerina Pappa kill for a 25-19 first set win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs jumped out with the first five points of game two, though Hampton responded with four of the next five points to trail 6-4 following a G-W service error. They held the advantage throughout the second set for a 25-17 decision. In the third, after an early trade off of points Gardner-Webb used a quick spurt to take a 14-9 lead after a service error.
Hampton made a big start to the fourth set racing out to a 10-4 lead after an attack error. Gardner-Webb methodically marched back into the set as a Frazier kill gave Hampton an 18-17 lead. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored six of the next seven points to lead 24-19 after a service ace. Hampton trimmed the deficit to 24-21 before Gardner-Webb scored the last point.
Kylah McNeal had 12 kills to lead Hampton, while Frazier added 11 and
Katerina Pappa had 10.
Morgan Warren had 33 assists and 10 digs, while
Maria Clara Andrade had 17 digs for the Pirates.
Match 2 vs. Navy
In the opening set, Hampton trimmed an early deficit down to 10-9 following an attack error. Navy got some breathing room on the heels of a 7-1 run to take a 17-10 lead after a pair of Hampton attack errors. Hampton and Navy were tied at 7-7 in the second set before four straight points from the hosts gave them some breathing room.
The third set saw 10 ties and seven lead changes with the last tie coming at 12-12 on a Frazier kill. Navy regained momentum on an 8-2 run to lead 20-14 after a service ace.
Pappa had nine kills to lead Hampton in match two, while Frazier had eight and six digs. Warren added 19 assists and eight digs, with Clara Andrade leading with 11 digs.
Hampton starts CAA play next weekend visiting Elon for a pair of matches.
