HAMPTON, VA. (March 7, 2025) … A four goal start over the first 4:25 for visiting Detroit Mercy proved to be too much to overcome as Hampton fell 11-5 to the visiting Titans on Friday evening at Armstrong Stadium.
The Titans got on the board 35 seconds into the contest on a Julian Greendeer unassisted goal and eventually pushed the lead to 4-0 as Sean Donahue found Zach Gleason for a goal with 10:35 left in the stanza.
Hampton responded with its first tally as
Canyon Steverson found the back of the net at the 10:10 mark.
Elijah Jean-Jacques cut the deficit to 4-2 with a marker at 7:07 of the opening period.
Detroit Mercy (1-3) pushed the lead back to 6-2 following a Harold Skinner goal with 10:21 left in the half, but Hampton (0-6) made it 6-3 with 2:28 left on Steverson's second goal of the night with this one being off a
Sebastian West feed.
The visitors started the third quarter with a pair of goals in a two minute span to lead 8-3, but
Tre Childers cut the lead to 8-4 with his first goal of the season coming from a
Jonathan Angel feed. Detroit Mercy responded with three goals to lead 11-4 with 31 seconds left. West found the back of the net catching a feed from
Reed Shaw and blistering a shot with 14 seconds left for the final margin.
On the game, Steverson had two goals and
Elijah Jean-Jacques, West and Childers had one apiece for Hampton. Angel, Shaw and West also added one assist apiece. Detroit Mercy was paced by Chase Mahabir with three goals as the Titans outshot Hampton 49-30.
Hampton is on the road Tuesday afternoon at noon facing Bellarmine and will open CAA play on March 15 against 17
th-ranked Fairfield at 11 a.m.
