HAMPTON, Va. (April 27, 2024) – Hampton's lacrosse team was defeated by the Fairfield Stags on Saturday afternoon inside Armstrong Stadium. 10 seniors were honored alongside family and friends. The final ended 18-8.
The Pirates put together one of their best games of the season, scoring a season-high eight goals. The team's previous high was against Queens (N.C.) on Feb. 24 (14-7, L).
How It Happened
Despite falling behind 6-0 early on, the Pirates regathered and scored twice in under a minute.
Sebastian West found the back of the net off a pass from
Steele Downing and
Andre Myers tallied a goal moments later (from West). Hampton kept the game close when
Mamadou Meite found
Kai Talley for a man-up goal with 3:09 remaining. The Stags scored at 0:01 in the second period to make it 8-3 going into halftime.
Miles Fawcett opened the scoring in the third period, as senior
Ellison Burt-Murray passed him the ball to cut the lead to four. Fairfield would find the net four more times (12-4) before
David Jackson broke the goalless drought (5:38). Talley notched his second goal of the game shortly thereafter, along with Meite's second assist.
Burt-Murray scored the last two goals for the Pirates in the fourth period. He earned a man-down goal at 11:17 that was unassisted, and the second came off a pass from
