HAMPTON, Va. (Mar. 24, 2024) - The Hampton Pirates lacrosse team will host the Drexel Dragons on Monday, March 25th, at 3:00 p.m.
So Far This Season
The Pirates are coming off a home loss to High Point University two weeks ago. Attackman
Miles Fawcett led the game with 2 goals along with scores along with goals from
Craig Williams,
Mamadou Meite and
Kai Talley. Midfielder
Darius Stanley would add an assist to the bunch, bringing his season point total to 11 and
Ethan Mitchell would also tack on an assist as well.
Mason Howard won 6 of 8 face offs giving him a season-high win percentage of 75%. Defenseman
Dillon Bethea has continued his defensive campaign ranking 2nd in the conference and 36th in the nation in caused turnovers.
The Pirates and Dragons have met once before last season (March 25, 2023) where Hampton fell at Drexel 18-4.
Scouting the Drexel Dragons
Brian Voelker is in his 15th season as head coach of the Dragons. They enter the matchup with a record of 3-5 and are coming off of a 4-14 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers.
The Dragons are led by Goalkeeper Drew McGill who ranks eighth in the country in saves per game averaging 13.75. He's also 17th in the country and second in the conference in save percentage at 54.7, corralling 110 shots on the year. Freshman Gavin Kelly has given offensive production as he's fifth in the conference in assists per game at 1.25. Face offs have been positive for the Dragons this year as face off specialist Aidan Shortley leads the conference in face off percentage with a win rate of 62.5%. Face off specialist Connor Beals and midfielder Liam Kammar also rank in the top ten in the conference in ground balls per game.
