A New Era of Hampton University Women's Basketball Set to Begin Against Bowie State

HAMPTON, Va. (Nov. 3, 2024) ... A new era of Hampton University women's basketball will begin on Monday afternoon as Hampton opens up against Bowie State at 4:30 p.m. inside the HU Convocation Center.

Tamisha Augustin will make her head coaching debut leading the Lady Pirates after she took over in the offseason. She joined the Lady Pirate family after serving as associate head coach at Florida. A native of Hampton, her resume includes over 10 years of collegiate level coaching including stops at South Carolina State, Marshall, VCU, Central Florida, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Arizona, Mississippi State, and Florida. She has also coached on the prep level in Georgia and Virginia and with the NBA G League Grand Rapids Gold.

The Lady Pirates return eight players including three starters from last year's team. The recruiting class includes six transfers. Amyah Reaves (7.8 ppg with 77 assists) and Le'Asia Foreman  (5.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg) return in the backcourt along with center Aisha Dabo (5.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg).

The Bowie State Bulldogs finished the 2023-24 season with a 13-14 record and 7-9 mark against Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponents. This game will be one of three contests against NCAA Division I opponents for the Bulldogs as they'll face UMES on November 9 and Old Dominion on November 15.

Mia Smith is the leading returning scorer for Bowie State as she averaged 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 2023-24.

Hampton will next see action on Thursday morning at Radford for an 11 a.m. tip.
