Radford, Va. (Sept. 3, 2023) … Hampton women's soccer team ended non-conference play Sunday night at Radford with a 2-0 loss. With the Highlanders controlling possession throughout the match, the Lady Pirates would be limited to just _ shots.

How it Happened

Out of the gate, Hampton's back line would be tested early with Radford producing a shot on goal in the first minute. After the early challenge by the Highlanders, the Lady Pirates started to settle into the match. Keri Geter produced the HU's first shot of the night but just missed high.

With Hampton facing continuous pressure from Radford, a defensive breakdown allowed the Highlanders to score in the 15th minute. The Lady Pirates offense was held to minimal chances in the first half. While the ball would be in the opponent's final third, RU's backline handled Hampton's advances.

The Highlanders found the back of the net once more in the 37th minute growing their advantage. Before the end of the half, the Lady Pirates constructed back-to-back chances. Taylor Oliver's shot tracked toward the goal but was blocked by a Radford defender giving HU their first corner kick of the night. Hampton off the corner kick created another shot. RU's keeper would be there to make the save on Madisyn Strange's attempt.

Coming out of the half both sides struggled to create any chances. Radford before the final horn went off scored three more times. During the final stretch of the match, the Lady Pirates tested the highlander's defense Throughout the final five minutes HU controlled possession in RU's final third. However, Hampton could not produce any strong chances.

Hampton will begin CAA play on Thursday at the College of Charleston. The match is set to start at 7:00 PM and will be streamed on FloFC.
