Hampton, Va. (Sept. 17, 2023) Hampton won their first set of the season in the 3-1 loss to the Towson Tigers. The Lady Pirates had the crowd roaring at Holland Hall throughout the match.  

After dropping the first set (14-25), Hampton roared back to take the second in thrilling fashion (26-24). The Tigers grabbed the last two by scores 8-25 and 16-25.

Out of the seven athletes that competed for Hampton six of them tallied a kill. Madison Clark led with five kills, follwed by four for Rhisen Davis and three for Tyller Williams. Maria Eduarda Rodrigues posted her second straight game with 11 assists. Rickelle Wescott posted four blocks for the second straight game as well and Cortni Adams also recorded four. Kylah Hunter set a career-high with 16 digs and Madison Clark had 11 of her own.

How it Happened

Set 1

Hampton jumped out to an early 4-2 lead. Towson then took eight of the next nine to lead by five at 10-5. The Lady Pirates brought the score to within (9-12) due to a block by Tyller Wiliams and Cortni Adams. The Tigers pulled away as it ended 14-25.

Set 2

The Lady Pirates set the tone early in the second with another two point lead (3-1). The Tigers jumped ahead at 7-5 when Hampton had a three-point run of their to take back the lead (9-8). The score went back as neither team was able to build more then a two point lead the rest of the set. The Lady Pirates led at 23-21 and had the set in sight. Towson took the next three, but Hampton fended off a set point and forced an attacking error. Clark smashed a kill and Williams and Adams came up with a uge block to win the set 26-24.

Set 3

Towson through everything at the third with a dominating start and finish. The Lady Pirates trailed at 3-7 but were not able to come back in the set. The Tigers went on a 7-0 run (14-3) and put the set out of reach.

Set 4
 
Hampton started the fourth quickly again with a 2-0 lead. That was followed by Towson taking seven of the next eight. The Lady Pirates were able to string two points together five times throughout the set, but seven attaking were too much to overcome (16-25).
