HAMPTON, Va. – On Senior Day for the Hampton lacrosse team, the Pirates equaled their most goals scored against a NCAA Division I opponent for the second straight game as they fell 26-9 to New Jersey Institute of Technology.

After giving up the first goal, Lonnie Jones tallied an unassisted goal at the 11:45 mark of the first to even the game at one.   The Highlanders responded with the next seven before Hampton talked three goals in just over two minutes.  Pierce Johnson got the first of two goals in the first half before Jones closed out his hat trick with two more to bring the Pirates to 8-4 with 7:57 left in the half.  Johnson recorded his second goal of the first half as the Pirates trailed 10-5 with just over four minutes left.

In the third, Elliott Johnson, III connected with Pierce Johnson to bring Hampton to 16-6 at the 10:16 mark.  Ian Groom then responded off the ensuing faceoff with a goal to trim the lead to 16-7 with 10:02 left.

The scoring for Hampton closed in a 72 second span of the fourth as Derian Williams-Sturdivant put one in for the Pirates at 8:17 and Josh Square tallied one off a Pierce Johnson feed to make the score 24-9 with 7:05 left.

Pierce Johnson had three goals and an assist, while Jones added three first half goals for the Pirates (4-4).   Hampton returns to action on April 17 at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C.
