HAMPTON, Va. --- Four different Pirates scored two goals each as a frantic fourth quarter rally fell short as Hampton lost to Maritime College 17-11 on Friday.
Trailing 13-5 with 10 minutes left in the third, Hampton started to mount some consistent attack moments as Melvin Scott, III, Nathan Brungot and Kendall Sapp scored in a seven minute span to trim the deficit to 13-8. Â A late goal by the Privateers with four seconds left in the quarter put them up 14-8.
In the fourth, Pierce Johnson, Derian Williams-Sturdivant and Sapp scored in the first six minutes to get Hampton to 14-11 but that was as close as it got.
Williams-Sturdivant, Sapp, Scott and Johnson all scored two goals for Hampton, while Jonathan Napier added one goal and a team best two assists,
The Pirates are back on Tuesday hosting SUNY Poly at 2pm.
