LATE SHOT SINKS HAMPTON IN OT

HAMPTON, Va. – In a game with a feel of March, a Carlik Jones 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left in overtime to give Radford a 101-98 victory on Thursday night at the hU Convocation Center.

The contest had 19 ties and 23 lead changes with neither team having more than an eight-point lead throughout the game.

In the first half, a Jermaine Marrow 3-ball tied the game at 41-all, while on the inbounds pass Greg Heckstall stole the pass and his three-point shot was determined to be just after the halftime horn as the teams were tied 41-all at intermission.

The second half saw five ties in the first 10 minutes as a jumper by Akim Mitchell evened the game at 65 with 10:18 left.  Radford went on a flurry to take the largest lead of the game at 79-71 on a steal and dunk by Ed Polite, Jr. with 4:35 left in regulation.

Hampton went on a 9-0 run to take an 80-79 lead with a pair of Mitchell free throws with 1:42 left.  Marrow hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds left for an 86-83 lead, but Carlik Jones drained a 3-ball with one second left to force overtime at 86-all.

In the extra session, three ties and five lead changes in the last five minutes saw a pair of Kalin Fisher free throws put Hampton up 98-96 with 22 seconds left.  Jones took the ball and drained a step-back 3-pointer with 1.8 left for the win.

Marrow paced Hampton with 28 points to lead five in double figures, while Fisher scored 22 all in the second half and overtime.  Mitchell added 21, while Trevond Barnes had 14 and Heckstall tallied 11 off the bench.  Fields topped Radford with 33, while Jones had 28 and Polite added 14 and 12 boards.

Hampton hits the floor again on Saturday in Rock Hill, S.C. to take on Winthrop on Saturday at 2 pm.
