BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A 26-11 second quarter proved too much to overcome as Hampton dropped a 68-46 Big South Conference decision on Tuesday night at Gardner-Webb.
Hampton held the lead for most of the first half using a layup from
Ashley Bates to put them up 10-6 with 1:11 left in the first. In the second, Gardner-Webb used a 13-2 run to take a 28-17 lead with 2:30 left on a Gabrielle Caponegro jumper.Â
In the third, both teams found their shooting stroke hitting over 53% from the floor but Hampton could only get as close as 12 points.
Bates scored 19 points with three steals and
Kaylah Lupoe added 14 with four assists and three blocks to lead Hampton.
LaShayla Wright-Ponder added eight points and nine rebounds for Hampton.
The Lady Pirates now face Longwood on Saturday in Farmville, Va. at noon.
