BAKERSFIELD, Ca. – Senior
Jermaine Marrow scored 21 points as Hampton fell in its last game of its west coast swing 70-57 at Cal State Bakersfield on Friday night.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 7-0 lead early and held a 14-4 lead at the 13-minute mark on a 3-pointer by De'Monte Buckingham. CSUB pushed the advantage to 24-6 on a pair of free throw by Greg Lee with 9:35 left in the half.
A triple by Marrow closed out Hampton's scoring in the first half as they trailed 36-22 at intermission.
Hampton trimmed what was a 24-point deficit in the second half to 10 on the heels of a 13-1 run capped by a
Saheem Anthony 3-pointer with 1:47 left to trail 65-55. That was as close as they got as the hosts made enough free throws down the stretch to ice the win.
The Pirates return home on Tuesday night to face Richmond at 7 pm in the HU Convocation Center.
