Charlisa Jenkins with 14 seconds remaining gave Hampton a 28-27 lead at halftime.
Gardner-Webb opened the third with a flurry to take its largest lead at 34-30 on a layup from Stanford with 6:55 left. Hampton answered with 13 of the next 16 points to lead 43-37 on a pair of VanArsdale free throws at the 1:21 mark.
Hampton held a six-point lead with just under five minutes left in regulation as a pair of
Kaylah Lupoe free throws put them up 60-54, though OT was forced on a 3-point play by Stanford with 34 seconds left at 67-all. Â
