BABINSACK PITCHING GEM LEADS HAMPTON OVER LA SALLE

HAMPTON, Va. – Junior Allyson Babinsack threw a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts as Hampton scored single runs in the first two innings to defeat La Salle 2-0 on Sunday in the final game of the Blue-White Classic.

Hampton scored a run in the first as with one out Taylor Warrick singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Alana VanDenburg.  Warrick stole third before scoring on a passed ball.

In the second, Cassidy Blackwell started with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from Sarah Kollas.  After a foul out, Lorena Alvarez doubled to left field which scored Blackwell for a 2-0 lead.

Babinsack made that stand up as the Explorers mounted one serious threat in the top of the seventh getting runners to second and third with one out.  She got a ground ball by Victoria Pineiro to Morgan Crawford at second who flipped to Daniella Milloy for a forceout.  Milloy then caught the lead runner off third and threw to Alvarez who got a run down started.  Warrick came in and got the last out in the run down tagging the lead runner at home.
VanDenburg was 2-for-2 to lead Hampton at the plate.

Hampton returns to action on Tuesday at Radford for a doubleheader.

SATURDAY

A walk-off single by Alvarez in the bottom of the eighth gave Hampton a split on Saturday defeating La Salle 4-3.  Hampton tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth with two coming on a two-run shot by VanDenburg.  Kial Watts followed with a walk and one batter later scored on a double by Crawford.  In the bottom of the eighth, Alvarez single to left plated the winning run.

Allie Hotetz earned the win with eight innings, allowing seven hits and striking out three.  Carwford was 2-for-3, while VanDenburg had two RBIs to lead Hampton.

Game one Saturday saw the Lady Pirates fall 3-1 to Albany as the Great Danes scored two runs in the top of the fourth to break a 1-all tie. Hampton scored in the first as DaSha Hill singled, stole second and later scored on a single by Kial Watts.
