NORFOLK, Va. – Senior
Malique Trent-Street scored 15 points as Hampton dropped a 71-63 decision to N.C. Central in the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference finals on Saturday afternoon.
Hampton held the lead for a fair part of the first half and went in up 28-27 on a Trent-Street 3-pointer with 64 seconds left. NCCU opened the second half on an 11-2 run to lead 38-30 on a 3-pointer by Pablo Rivas at the 17:53 mark.
The Pirates chipped away and retook the advantage on a
Greg Heckstall jumper with 7:30 left for a 53-52 lead. A 3-pointer by
Kalin Fisher tied the game at 58 at the 4:24 mark, but the Eagles scored the next 11 points to ice the win.
Joining Trent-Street in double figures were Fisher and
Akim Mitchell with 11 apiece. Â
Charles Wilson-Fisher and Trent-Street were All-Tournament selections.
Hampton will learn of its National Invitation Tournament fate on Sunday night starting at 8:30 pm as the selection show will be shown on ESPNU.
