HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton Lady Pirates were outscored 22-11 in the fourth quarter as visiting Norfolk State pulled away for a 63-48 win on Saturday.
Hampton held a 12-6 lead with 2:56 left in the first quarter on a triple by
Monnazjea Finney-Smith and took a 15-10 lead on another 3-pointer by Finney-Smith with 35 seconds left. A 3-ball by Armani Franklin brought Norfolk State to 15-13 after one.
In the second, Hampton held a 20-16 lead on a 3-ball by
Jephany Brown with 6:53 left. NSU closed the half on an 8-2 flurry to lead 24-22 as an
Allina Starr layup with 15 seconds left trimmed the deficit for Hampton.
Norfolk State would hold Hampton to three free throws in the first five minutes of the third quarter as they pushed the lead to 11 on a layup by Alexys Long. Hampton would get it to three early in the fourth quarter, but went cold as NSU went on a 10-0 run over a three minute span to pull away.
K'lynn Willis was the lone Lady Pirate in double figures with 12 points and seven steals.
Ashley Bates added nine points and Starr chipped in with eight points, five assists and four rebounds.
Hampton hits the road again to face Coppin State Monday night at 5:30 pm in Baltimore, Md.
