IN BRIEF: Hampton tied a school record with 13 blocked shots en route to a 110-58 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian University in the season opener for the Pirates on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hampton opened the game on a 16-3 run as a Jermaine Marrow jumper put the Pirates up at the 15:28 mark.
- The Pirates went on an 11-0 run to push the advantage to 40-17 on a three-point play be Ben Stanley with 4:45 left in the half.
- In the second half, Hampton used a 16-0 run over a 3:42 span to take a 94-43 lead ib a JJ Watson three-point play with 8:09 left.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- The 13 blocked shots ties a school record set in 1999 against N.C. A&T and then again in 2011 against Utah Valley
- Marrow was the leading scorer with 22 points, while Kalin Fisher added 16 and Trevond Barnes had 11 and eight boards.
- Barnes topped the team in blocks with four, while Ben Stanley added three and Heckstall chipped in with two.
- After trailing on the boards by five at the half, Hampton outrebounded MACU 36-19 in the second half to win the boards 58-46.
