IN BRIEF: Hampton started off quickly winning the first set, but the host UNC Asheville took the next three to take the Big South matchup 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-12
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hampton closed the first set scoring the last five points behind Maja Petronijevic serving. A pair of kills by Lena Washington pushed Hampton to a 23-22 lead and eventual 25-22 first set win.
- In the second set the match was tied 12 times and saw four lead changes as UNC Asheville held a 24-19 lead late. Hampton trimmed it to 24-22 off a kill by Megann Delgado before a kill gave the hosts a 25-22 second set win.
- Same scenario in the third set as Hampton trimmed a late set deficit to 23-21 after a kill by Isis Black before dropping the next two points in losing 25-21.
- UNC Asheville raced out to an 11-1 lead in the fourth set and took the victory 25-12.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- Delgado paced three in double digit kills with 13, while Washington and Victoria Jenifer added 10 apiece.Â
- Delgado and Washington recorded double-doubles as Delgado added 14 digs and Washington had 12. Petronijevic was the team leader with 18 digs.
- In the first set, Hampton had a .400 attack percentage, but that dropped in the next sets drastically (.231, .057 and .029).
