The Short Story: High Point limited Hampton to just one long scoring run all night to post the eighth-straight win for the Panthers and 10th win in the last 11 contests.
Â
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- High Point registered a 68% sideout percentage on the night, drastically decreasing Hampton's opportunities for scoring runs.
- With the win, High Point remains in first place in the Big South. The Panthers have swept their opponents in six of those nine conference wins.
- Abby Broadstreet tied for the match high with 10 kills, finishing with a .529 hitting percentage for HPU.
- Megann Delgado tallied 10 kills for HU to go with eight digs.
- A key to the game for HPU was a balanced effort at the net. Five Panthers added at least five kills while turning away 12 blocks as a team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hampton jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first set behind a pair of Delgado kills. High Point slowly cut into that lead with HU leading for the final time at 8-7. The visitors closed on an 18-8 run the remainder of the way to claim the opening set.
- High Point continued that momentum into the second set, leading 16-8 midway through the frame. A service error sparked the Lady Pirates rally as Maja Petronijevic served up a 7-0 run for HU, the longest of the night. A service error ended the run and the Panthers would not let the hosts get closer than two the rest of the game.
- High Point held the lead for the majority of the third set as well with the last Lady Pirate lead coming at 7-6 on an attack error by HPU. The Panthers lit .206 in the third as opposed to .031 for Hampton to close out the match.
WHAT'S NEXT
Hampton will look to snap a six-match losing skid on Saturday, hosting Gardner-Webb University (7-15/1-8) for a 3 p.m. Big South start.
