The Short Story: Hampton rallied to claim the final two sets in a five-set victory over Gardner-Webb University. The win snaps a six-match losing skid for the Lady Pirates.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS
  • Hampton capitalized with its two best-hitting percentage sets of the day coming in the fourth and fifth sets. The Lady Pirates hit .458 in the decisive fifth set with Megann Delgado adding five kills in that frame.
  • Gabby Calloway had a career day for the Lady Pirates. She finished with eight kills, an assist, an ace, and a career-high 14 digs.
  • Lena Washington was also instrumental in the win, finishing with 13 kills on a .333 hitting mark, to go with six digs and two blocks.
  • Delgado finished with a match-high 23 kills to go with 12 digs for another double-double.
  • Hannah Donaldson proved why she is the Big South leader in blocks per set, finishing with five blocks for Gardner-Webb to go with 10 kills and five aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After dropping the first set, Hampton saw itself trail again in the second, 23-22. Delgado added a kill to even the score. Another kill from Olivera Stojilovic brought up set point for HU where a block from Delgado and Stojilovic evened the match.
  • Hampton again had to rally in the fourth set, trailing 18-17. A bad set from GWU evened the match and put Maja Petronijevic on the service line. The HU libero served seven-straight points as the Lady Pirates went on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 24-18 lead.
  • The two squads went back and forth early in the fifth set with GWU leading 9-6 at the media timeout. Hampton got back-to-back kills from Kyndall Nicholas to spark a 6-0 run and put the Lady Pirates in position for the victory. Delgado also added a pair of kills and a block in the scoring run.
WHAT'S NEXT
Hampton will travel to Campbell University (7-13/5-5) on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. Big South start.
